Djamel Laroussi specified that his band logo – an ancient Touareg cross – would be part his guitar’s appearance (more about that in the customMade section), so we figured out a way to prominently include the symbol into the instrument’s design. But while we think that it’s quite pretty, the innovative part goes beyond aesthetics.
Serving a practical purpose, the Tuareg cross even takes on a practical function: Positioned above the f-holes, it can be raised or lowered with a pair of thumb-screws, allowing adjustments to the guitar’s bass response and a complete closure of the holes, which increases the instrument’s ability to be used at high volumes without feedback.
Of course the guitar’s aluminum binding is also special, but I stole that idea from Tim Teel. Given how many of the guitar’s other parts were already made out of aluminum, it just had to be part of it.
Certainly, the world will keep on turning without innovations like these, but isn’t it just nice how the headstock seamlessly flows into the neck?
