Since most of our guitars are custom orders its very seldom that you get the chance to buy an instrument from us without waiting time.
From time to time we make special guitars for shows or we just fool around to develop new ideas.
With its hand-carved flamed-maple top and back, and hand-bent sides, this is a complex and extravagant instrument; a lot like an archtop jazz guitar, but built slightly stronger, and with a small block under the bridge. The Purple Gringobeat can’t be held down, and it will play just about any musical style, in style.
It’s purple because we were getting ready to stain and finish it on the day that the news reached us that Prince had died. We spontaneously decided to dress the guitar purple in honor of Prince’s favorite color; it’s a small tribute to a big musician.
As such, we see our limited «Alps and Homeland» edition of 20 special Massari archtops as a tribute to this environment. As our «top-of-the-line» archtop, the Massari model represents everything that Claudio has learned in 36 years of building instruments.
Each of the guitars will have unique features, all based on and inspired by the common theme of «Alps and Homeland». Examples include colors that represent the region, traditional motifs, use of materials sourced in the Alps, and much more.
This guitar will be on sale in Octobre 2016 after showing it at the Santa Barbara Show in USA.
Still available the acousticguitar no. 2 of our new «les petites naives» edition.
We’ve been obsessed with this idea ever since we used it an acoustic bass for Thomas Stalder back in 2005, and it was first realized on a guitar with the Vals Quartzite Flattop in 2013. Not surprisingly, both instruments caused a bit of a stir, as their construction is totally new.
By moving the soundhole into the cutaway, we’re able to use the entire soundboard as a resonating surface, which gives the instruments an amazing tone. Additionally, the cutaway doesn’t take away from the body, as it leaves the entire back intact, leading to a powerful bass response. And yet, the fingerboard’s upper register is as easy to reach as it would be with a regular cutaway! We call it the «Soundhole Included Topcut.»
We also developed a new type of bracing for this guitar, based on Dr. Kasha’s «radial bracing» concept. The result in an incredibly balanced, warm, and intimate sounding guitar with tons of sustain. Putting the emphasis on surrounding the player with a cloud of sound, the guitar puts the personal sonic experience ahead of absolute projection - also thanks to its two small sound ports, which function as «monitors.» Similarly, we’re finding it to be an ideal guitar for carrying a song or a defining a mood.
