Amar
M’rad · Custom built
This guitar we built for Amar M'Rad, an Algerian guitar instructor/
teacher living in Switzerland. As he is often in Senegal in Africa, we strived to link his North African roots with his love for West Africa.
We achieved that by introducing ornamental features from North
Africa (sound hole am bindings) and by using ebony and silver in-
lays reminiscent of Tuareg jewellery. For the top we used warm and deep-sounding cedar, and for the body we used gnarled olive. The neck is crafted from African acajou and the finger board is made
from the Macassar ebony.
To emphasize the masculine and powerful element, we decided
against a mirror finish and opted instead for oil for the corpus and shellac for the top. To make the guitar through an amplifier playable we chose a pick-up system by Schertler, our first choice in acoustic guitar pick-up systems. No Piezo!
